Nokia Lumia Icon Review: A Huge Step Forward Towards Windows Phone

Nokia Lumia

When Nokia launched its Lumia 1520, we could see the new aspects of the Windows Phone. All of the sudden, Microsoft released its ace card with the best available hardware and the innovation of great apps that had arrived in Windows Phone store. We are more concerned about the 6 inch screen size of 1520 and the AT&T would limit its attraction in US.

Last week, Nokia launched its Lumia icon that has nearly the similar specs to Lumia 1520 in 5 inches compact model. Icon is worth considering when you are considering the Big Red for purchasing.

Hardware

The hardware itself is quite potent. The hardware is quite similar to Lumia 928 with its square shape, flat sides, and sharp corners. The material is changed from glossy polycarbonate to aluminum on the perimeters and matte polycarbonate on the back side. The non-removable back here swells out from the rest of the chassis. The hardware is quite sturdy and durable. Moreover, 5-inch size is quite suited to be held in hands as compared to large versions.

Windows PhoneSoftware

Windows Phone has released its third major update now and the latest version of Icon has all the best features in the market. Nokia built on its own features by upgrading them called as “Black” update. Apart from Verizon apps that come naturally with Icon, the plethora of Microsoft and Nokia necessities are also available. Roughly speaking, 500 Nokia apps are there for Icon apart from some of the Bing apps.

Nokia has always been the pioneer in its camera and photographic features. It has further excelled with PureView tech that was earlier seen in the Lumia 1020’s 41 megapixel camera. That camera was so amazing that the 20-megapixecamera in 1520 seems a real downgrade, that itself is quite brilliant considering the iPhones and Android devices. The camera of Icon is pretty much similar to the 1520’s since it shares plenty of same characteristics and specs. These specs of camera are more than enough for even advanced users.

The smaller aperture of Icon enables it to take good photos in low light conditions. The videos are captured in high resolution in 1080p with options of 24, 25, and 30 frames per second.

Performance

Qualcomm Snapdragon 800-quad core processor has supreme speed in terms of mobile devices. Icon clocks at 2.2 GHz pioneers in its class. Even the low-end Windows phones have high specs, playing high-graphics games is such a good experience on Icon. This phone lies on top of the line chip. Icon also seems to render its images faster than even Lumia 1020.

The Windows Phone has a great competition with the phones like 1520 since it outsmarts all the previous low-end versions. However, it is only available in AT&T in US and is a significantly large phone.
